FLAG FOOTBALL LEAGUE RULES

1. Game Length

Four (4) quarters, 10 minutes each
Halftime: 5 minutes

2. Timeouts

Each team receives two (2) timeouts per half
Timeouts are 30 seconds each

3. Offensive Series

The offense has four (4) plays to earn a first down
After a first down, the offense has four (4) plays to score a touchdown

4. Extra Points

1-point attempt: Ball placed at the 5-yard line
2-point attempt: Ball placed at the 10-yard line
Teams may run or pass on either attempt

5. Player Eligibility

All players are eligible to receive the ball by pass or handoff
One (1) offensive player may go in motion at the snap



6. Running the Ball

Unlimited running plays are allowed
The quarterback may not run unless blitzed
If the defense blitzes, the quarterback is allowed to run

7. Defense & Blitzing

The defense may blitz on all plays
The blitzer must line up 10 yards from the line of scrimmage
The referee will mark the blitz distance

8. Contact & Blocking

No blocking or contact of any kind is allowed

9. Coach on the Field (Younger Divisions)

3–4 and 5–6 divisions may have one (1) coach on the field at all times (offense and defense)
On offense, the coach must move to the sideline before the snap
Coaches may not interfere with the quarterback’s vision

10. Field Dimensions

Length: 65 yards
Width: 30 yards

11. Penalties

Standard football rules apply


12. Quarterback Throwing Time

Grades 3–4: 6 seconds
Grades 5–6: 5 seconds
Grades 7–8: 4 seconds

13. Player Format

6v6
Kindergarten–2nd Grade (K–2)
3rd–4th Grade Girls
5th–6th Grade Girls

7v7
3rd–4th Grade Boys
5th–6th Grade Boys
7th–8th Grade Girls
7th–8th Grade Boys

14. Unsportsmanlike Conduct

Two unsportsmanlike penalties by the same player = ejection

After the first penalty:

  • Coach and player will be notified
  • Player’s number will be documented

15. Game Length & Timeouts

Qty 2 20 min halves
2 min half time
2 Timeouts (30 Seconds)


16. Sideline Conduct

Unsportsmanlike conduct for a sideline will be given to the Head Coach
Two unsportsmanlike penalties and that coach and or parent will be removed
Team will forfeit game if sideline cannot be controlled
Parents, Coach, and Players must sit or stand with the 10 yard lines

17. Gameplay Rules

1 lateral is allowed down field
Bad snap doesn't stop the QB clock
A blitz doesn't stop the QB clock, QB must cross the line of scrimmage or get rid of the ball before the clock expires

If the defense blitzes, the sack count is no longer active
Flag guarding is a dead ball at the spot of the foul

18. Mercy Rule

Mercy rule 26 points
Winning team will have 2 down to get to mid field, 2 downs to score
If they aren't successful ball will be placed on the 5 yard line
